Make Friends with Your Memory

Make Friends with Your Memory
By Denise Vogel and Marshall Mordew

I had a great idea to write an article on memory, but I forgot the details of what I wanted to write about! So, instead of trying to remember, I decided to start again and research memory afresh.

Memories can lead to an array of different emotions - they can make you feel great, sad, happy, depressed or just plain ordinary.

Isn't it annoying when you feel unable to recall something you want to remember - when that tiny bit of information you are searching for eludes you?

What is the definition of memory?

The Chambers Dictionary definition is

"the power of retaining and reproducing mental or sensory impression".

What is it that makes having a good memory so elusive? What can you do to improve your ability to remember a name, a place or an answer to a question that you know you know the answer to but can't quite remember?

If I was to say it was all in the mind, would you believe me?

Your memory is there for a reason, It helps you recall things from the past. The past could be a minute ago or many years past. Your brain processes all that you discover around you, all that it sees, hears or smells. As soon as you are exposed to any new information it starts the process of storing the information in your memory for use at a later date.

Improving brain health and memory
